Does anyone know how to make bio-diesel fuel from wvo without the traditional lye and methanol method?
I am very interested in making biodiesel however, I am wondering if there are any chemicals that could be used to substitute the traditional ones?
No need to. Filter the oil well, then run it straight through the engine. Just have to keep it warm so it doesn't solidify. First diesel engines ran on peanut oil.

I might be getting an old Mercedes turbo diesel for my birthday, and my friend told me that I can run it off of straight WVO (waste vegetable oil) that's filtered down to 5 microns. Can i get some confirmation, and a place to buy filters, down to 5 microns?
Yes, that car will in fact run off vegetable oil, but the "put it in and go" method is a bit sketchy and will compromise the reliability/longevity of the engine.
You will want to modify the car somewhat if plan to regularly run on WVO. The minimum would be to install a heated fuel filter and the full blown conversion would include a dedicated fuel system for WVO (two tank system).
Your choice will depend on how much WVO you plan to consume and how long you want, or care for, your car. (Read cost benefit analysis) Also, if you live in a cold climate you will be forced to put in more of a "system" to deal with the oil solidifying.
All that said, if you "blend" the WVO with regular diesel at concentrations less than 20% you will probably not have any issues to deal with.
Finally, to answer your question:
A1) If you are dealing with 10s of gallons you are looking for bag filters. They come in all micron ratings and can be readily purchased on ebay.
A2) If you are dealing with 100s of gallons you will want a wvo centrifuge. There are a few available, some good some to small to be useful. In centrifuges, size matters not published flow rate. Google: "wvo centrifuge"
