infomation on a treadmill motor specs?
i want to build a wind turbine with a motor i have.the problem i have is that i need to know the watt output and amps of the motor so i can get the right blocking diode and regulator. the motor is a green master dc motor model gmd118-1 open construction 1.50hp 230v dc power input 50/60hz 4800rpm thanks darren
well first off, if you are running this motor as a generator, then the original input and wattage of the motor shouldn't matter, because rather than sending power through the motor to make movement, you will have a variable amount of movement (wind) creating a varying, unpredictable amount of power that will probably come nowhere near the 1.5 horsepower that the motor makes when powered. however, if you must know the power in watts and the amperage:
1 hp = 746 watts so
1.5 hp = 1119 watts max output
Power (watts)= Voltage * current (amps)
1119w = 230v * x
x = 4.86 amps
Which stock should I buy?
I have it between Thomas and Betts corp. (TNB) and Trinity Industries (TRN). I like TNB but would like to see what others think as well. I chose these two because of there interest in the construction of wind turbines. Whether you like it or not green is the way it is going to be even though I agree with Sean Hannity that we should be drilling domestically.
Both are interesting and good companies. You obviously didn't pick them from market trading greed, however, because Standard & Poors rates both Hold and Reuters is neutral on TNB but puts TRN in the underperform category.
From a technical sense, even though TNB is approaching a supposed cyclical down trend the graph looks like there is still some rise to it. It is possible to get either (or why not both?) a little cheaper a little later. However, since the market is sinking (in part) on earnings and profit weaknesses, these profitable firms might be getting more attention in the process.
As for your wind energy thing, please note that it is an incidental addition to a broad book of business in both companies. TRN seems more like a transportation company, so, for your avowed purposes, wind energy is a better fit to TNB. Neither one will be on anyone's 'get rich quick' scheme list anytime soon, so you will have to consider it a long-term thing, something important to remember, but neither one will be setting the world on fire with excitement over their wind turbines either. Nonetheless, you've looked at two very substantial and very solid companies. I'd say, Bravo, buy some of both.
