Should I buy a salvage title car?

Its an 07 with fairly low miles and of course very affordable. Apparently the first owner drove through a lot of water thus totalling the car. Two engine rods were replaced as well as the bolts and head gasket too. I'm told the car didn't sit very long before they began working on it. Next owner put on 12k more miles on it afterwards before deciding to sell. I want to get a car that will last more than 5 years. Don't really care about resale value. Is there anything else I should ask about or look for? Test drove it and it runs fine. Didn't hear anything out of the ordinary. Help much appreciated!

They don't total a vehicle for "driving through a lot of water". You can expect electrical problems and there is also the potential for a health hazard if the water was rancid with waste like a sewer or storm system. It may look and run OK for now, but down the road you will most likely regret the purchase and have a hard time getting rid of it. Most insurance companies don't touch Salvage title vehicles.
