China currently mines and refines most REMs for use in solar panels. These mines are large open pit mines, with little or no safety and environmental oversight. So, from the true enviros out there, is green energy worth:
1) Destroying China's environment.
2) Killing children - kids as young as 12 work in these mines and mill, many won't live to see 40
Most of us were only too happy to overlook China's dismal human rights and environmental record when we were buying up all the cheap electronics and sneakers and so on. But now that it has to do with green technology, is it a talking point? Apparently so.
Energy Bill Doubled, I feel bad bc I try to be eco friendly?
We just bought a new house in Feb. and our power bill has been very low. But in Feb., March i use my gas heater. April, and May were still cheap but a little costly bc of a/c being ran in May. Ok Junes bill just arrived and My bill exactly doubled. In May I was using 21 kwh a day, and this bill says I was using 42 in June. I know its a little warmer, but you could take March, April, and Mays bill and would not equal Junes bill. I am new to owning a house, and the house was just built in a neighborhood. I honestly have energy star everything, cfl bulbs, I change my filters, I live alone, I am very true to staying "green". My lawn mower does not use gas. Its a reel. We have not changed any of our habits. If any thing we left for a week, and turned most of everything off, but the a/c we set that at 80. My ? is, Is this possible?
when central ac is used it is the biggest electricity user in the home by far....evidently you went from needing no ac in april,to needing a little in may,,then a lot in june....its normal for a cheap bill in the spring to double [ or more] in the summer when ac is on a lot...the same is true for natural gas usage in september/october versus november/december...you go from only using gas to heat water,cook,and maybe dry clothes,,to doing all that AND heat the home on cold days/nights...the usage goes way up when the you go from not needing the largest user to having it on regularly...be glad your house is new...older homes are much worse,especially to heat.......dan
