total green cleaning Frequently Asked Questions
All plants produce oxygen--but do cacti yield as much as small trees?
It seems that due to its internal mechanisms in the green areas of plants' leaves, the oxygen gas is released as a by-product; thus, the public's emphasis on planting trees to clean-up the air in the city. I live in the desert where water is limited. Therein lies the question: Does a cactus like a prickly-pear (Opuntia species) give off oxygen at the same rate as a small tree? Let's consider the total surface of area of the tree leaves--say one tree = 500 leaves = 1,500 sq. inches of oxygen manufacture. An opuntia's waxy, fleshy, succulent segments (which have no leaves but does have chlorophyll) have about 25 square inches per segment = a medium-sized opuntia has about 55 segments = 1, 500 sq. inches. Do the two plants produce the same amount of oxygen?
I think a lot of people misunderstand the role of plants in converting CO2 to O2.
We do not convert O2 to CO2 - we convert carbon (in food) and O2 to CO2.
Plants do not convert CO2 to O2 - they convert CO2 to carbon (which they assimilate) and O2. What this means is when a plant becomes fully grown and stops increasing in size, it will stop being a net producer of O2. It will emit CO2 and O2 in equal quantities. When a plant eventually dies, it will return all the collected carbon back to the atmosphere.
To answer your question cactus can emit O2 only while they are growing (the carbon they pull out of the air has to go somewhere). Which tree produces the most oxygen depends on which one is growing faster.
Is it illegal for a car dealership to sell a car with a clean title when they knew it had a salvage title?
We bought a car a couple years ago with a clean/green title. We just recently found out that we have to turn in our clean title for a salvage title because before we had it was totaled and issued a salvaged title. I ordered a complete title history on the car and I found out that the dealership who bought the vehicle with a salvage title applied for a clean title instead of a salvage title. Is this illegal and could they get in trouble for it?
At first when I called the dealership they told me they don't buy salvaged vehicles, but when I told him I had proof of it right in front of me and I told him who he bought it from, he said he did it as a favor for his cousin who does not have a dealer's license. We ended up buying it from his cousin who had bought it from this dealership and obviously made a lot of money on it. The guy from the dealership said he would call his cousin and they would "work with me." Do you think they could get in trouble for doing this?
first off, if the dealer tried to scrub the title, yes, they can get in huge trouble.
Skip the lawyers and courts. Go straight to the DMV, and find their dealer services division. Tell them what happened, including the call to the dealer. Make sure you have all your documents in order. And make COPIES of all the documents. File an official complaint with the DMV and let them work it.
A dealer can argue in court, and backpedal. But when it comes to a DMV infraction, there is no way to go. The DMV has full authority to levy fines, penalties, and even take away the license in a situation such as this.
although I must say this - contrary to the previous poster - not ALL car dealers lie. I have 15 years in this business, and I feel that always following your moral compass will lead to far greater rewards than a quick buck.
With all of that said, please contact the DMV first thing in the morning.
good luck!
