solar water heating systems Frequently Asked Questions
Need technical help with troubleshooting tips for water pump and controls for solar water heating system.?
This is a 20 year old solar water heating system that has been woking fine up until just recently. It has a Grundfos A8207 pump, and Heliotrope General Delta-t+ DTT-74 control box. The lights at the control box indicate power there, but the pump does not appear to come on (even when switched to "manual mode"). How do I determine if the problem is in the pump, or in the control box? There are no obvious frayed wires etc, and no other apparent damage. Any helpful suggestions will be very much appreciated. Thank you.
If you have the correct voltage where it is wired to the pump then your problem is the pump
how do I build my own ground source heat pump?
I know it's possible to make a solar water heater using the heat exchanger from an old refridgerator, I have the plans for that already, but can anyone please tell me how to connect a fridge heat exchanger to a geothermal underfloor heating system. I can't afford 4,000 - 10,000 euros to buy one, surely I can make my own!
If you have any links then please give those too.
Thank you
im a tad bit confused if this is one project youre referring to or two or three even.
I understand the solar water heater from a fridge heat exchange. I can comprehend the underfloor heating system connection to said heat exchange? Is the geothermal part a separate idea?
Typically a geothermal heating system is one thing, the idea being heat is removed from the ground in the winter and pumped into the ground in the summer. These typically involve fairly deep wells.
If what youre asking is how to connect the different coils in the fridge to pump heat between the solar heater and the underfloor system, I just have to ask why not just use water as a coolant and a small pump to move the heat?
For sources, look up popular science (magazine). Within the last 2 issues, one of the editors wrote an article on adding a geothermal heat pump to his house he is building. It is rather informative and you might be able to find it online at their website.
IMHO, if you cannot afford to buy even the cheapest professionally manufactured system, then you should stay clear of any "green" projects that involve holes in the ground deeper than 2 feet.
