I want to purchase a 60-watt solar panel, but my laptop needs 90-watts. If I give it a head start to charge the batteries that I have to store the energy, will it do the job? I don't need to leave it on constantly. Mostly I use it a little while here and there throughout the day. I am a total novice to the way solar energy works, but I'm looking to "go off the grid" and not depend on the electrical company for my energy anymore. Any advice is VERY welcome!
It depends on how long you use your laptop each day. Take the 90-watts times the number of hours each day you use the laptop. This will give you say 180-watt-hours if you use the laptop for two hours each day. The 60-watt solar panel should be able to produce 480-watt-hours of power in 8 hours. You need to store this power in a battery with a regulator. Your solar panel and battery should be able to keep your laptop running for over 5 hours per day.
Where can I buy a low voltage solar panel?
For a project at school we have to devise a experiment using solar power. I'm going to connect a solar panel (aorund 3volts) to the motor of one of those cheap plastic hand-held fans. Does anyone know where I can buy a solar panel near Parramatta or Bondi?
