energy sources: which is the most effective NOT more efficient?
what i meant in the title is which renewable enrgy source is the most effective not effcient for example wind gets a better heat transfer percentage than solar (wind= theoretically 59% solar=about 22%) however solar actually produces more energy than wind....so if you had to make a list 1 being the 'best' so to say, and wutever the last number happens to be being the least 'best' what you YOUR list look like =)

You need to be a lot clearer. I'm not sure what you mean by heat transfer with regards to wind although Betz' Limit for a perfect turbine is 59% efficiency and a photovoltaic array will never surpass 22% efficiency.
There are other means of providing useful energy with the sun such as evacuated tubes which have efficiencies exceeding 70%.
What you need to bear in mind is that energy from the wind is much denser than energy from the sun and energy from oceans (wave & tidal) is denser than wind again.
I live in Ireland and off our West Coast we have the greatest available ocean power in the northern hemisphere. Nuclear energy would also never be suited to Ireland as the country is too small and we have campaigned for years to have sellafield in England across the Irish Sea shut down as it has made the Irish Sea the most radioactive sea in the world.
So with regards to that I would pick
1. off-shore wave
2. off-shore wind
3. solar district hot water supplies
4. nuclear (we do get electricity sent over from England at peak times and theirs is very much nuclear orientated)
5. biomass (lost cause)
