Why won’t automakers sell high mpg diesel cars in the USA?
They sell 86 different cars in other countries that get better than 40 mpg that they don’t sell here.
They’re working on it. But for years they were under the dilusion that we didn’t need or want them. I can tell ya now, that I will buy the 1st Mazda 3 diesel that comes to the market if it ever gets here. Yes they make one only for Europe as I understand it. The big 3 continue to control politics & keep those high mpg cars down. Also, they last considerably longer than gas engines. Many folks can put well over 200K+ miles on them. That’s bad for the big 3 b/c that means less turn over. People will keep cars 10 plus years not like the avergage 8 that we do now. Volume sales have something to do w/ that as well. When a rental agency buys 10K cars this year, if they have a diesel fleet, they will not buy news ones quite as soon b/c like I said, they last longer.
