How do I convert a 36 volt lift truck battery to a 12 volt and a 24 volt?
This industrial battery has 18 each 2 volt cells. Since I can't find a 36 volt to 110 or 220 inverter I must make it into a 24 volt and a 12 volt. I will need to cut somewhere but where? All inverters I've seen are 12/24/48 volts dc to 110 ac or 220 ac . If anyone knows who sells a 36 volt inverter to 110/220 ac let me know! Easy way out! But.....
This applies if you have a battery pack with tie straps between the cells that you can get at and disconnect or cut. Remember these batteries pack a lot of power. A hacksaw in the wrong place will melt... if you are lucky!
Separate the battery into 12 cells (24V) and 6 cells(12V). Or separate into three batteries of 6 cells each and all of them will be12V.
If I understand your question you want to run an inverter off of the battery. By making three 12 volt batteries you could run them in parallel into one 12V to 110V (220V) inverter.
Look for the negative and positive terminals. Does the battery have flat/rectangular or round cells? The negative will be on the same side of a flat cell for all cells. If round the negative will be inside or outside term on all cells. Your 'new' batteries will have the negative terminal in the same relative position. The negative terminal for the battery will be the last one in each pack.The positive terminal for the pack will be the last one on the other end. There will be two negative and two positives for 24V and 12V packs. there will be 3 of each for all 12V packs.
