inductive power coupling
Limitations of inductive multimeter or power clamp meter?

I need something to tell me if there is current or voltage through wires for AC/DC circuits. Will this “Megger MMC850″ do it for both? I’m not sure if it will pick up DC current and if it only works half the time it’s not worth it.

DC voltage will be up to 28 and AC goes up to 220.

What minimum currents can it detect? Is there one better for my application? Often wires will only be able to be seperated from other energised circuits by only a couple a couple inches.

Any information is greatly appreciated.
Suggestions for one to use where the wires run in close proximity to up to 50 others?
The jaws on most I’ve seen look too large to be usefull in confined spaces.

No, it won’t do DC, amp clamps that do DC are about 5 times more expensive, due to requiring Hall-effect devices and circuitry. Note that the data sheet quotes a frequency response of 45 to 400Hz, which excludes DC.

I got a Fluke/LEM model LH41 clamp, does AC and DC up to 40A, great little clamp, about $400.

This clamp is smaller than most clamps, ID=0.75″, OD=1.5″ (that’s a jaw depth of 3/8″) height is only 0.5″

Resolution in the low scale (4A) is 1mA
