Would a boycott of all new cars until plug in hybrids are for sale work?
The new Chevy Volt they are saying will run 40 miles on a charge before any gas is used. I am convinced this technology is ready for marketing now, but is being held off by the big oil companies that have a large part in running America. Why wouldn't a boycott on all new cars until these cars are readily available work? Is there a website where we could start such a boycott?
Don't just blame the oil companies for keeping the Volt from selling right now.
The Volt is going to cost between $30,000 and $40,000 (my guess is closer to $40,000). For a fairly plain midsize family sedan (except for the ability to go 40mi using no gas anyway) that's pretty expensive. Economic factors have as much (or likely more) to do with the Volt being the exception in car manufacturing as the big bad oil companies have to do with it.
Considering I can buy a Chevy Malibu 4cyl for around or under $20,000 that can do everything the Volt can do (except go~40mi on electric) for ~1/2 the price, that extra $20,000 is going to buy a LOT of gas or groceries for my family.....and don't be fooled, the Volt WILL use fuel and it will cost money to operate just like a conventional car, it just won't be in the 1st 40 miles of a tank of "gas" where you see that cost..
As far as boycotting new car sales goes, I think we'd find that the car companies would all go out of business before our cars would wear out and absolutely need to be replaced. I think most people would be extremely surprised at just how long modern cars will last if they're taken care of properly.
is it possible to buy a concept car from the manufacture?
i know you wont find one that is for sale in the market. but is it possible to buy one directly from the company? how much is an average concept car? all the concept cars look very nice. i'd rather pay $100k to Denali XT Hybrid Concept from GM than spending $300k+ for an ordinary Ferrari.
NOPE.
They are concepts. Many of them are just shells with no real functioning parts. And those that are really functional have too many secrets that they don't want OTHER companies to steal yet.
Again they are just concepts.
