green energy uk Frequently Asked Questions
Does the UK need to worry about energy supplies?
I have read that France's 58 reactors often do not run at full capacity and the UK National grid imports electricity at peak times.
We do not produce coal anymore - even to export, when other countries like China can get it cheaper elsewhere.
Russia has plenty of gas to export.
The UK gets oil & gas from the North sea.
There is all this talk about investing in green energy - wind farms etc, but does the UK actually need more energy?
I would have thought that this subject be discussed by the British public as it affects the decisions of the politicians. One example is the fact that wind farms may not be very efficient - but this is never discussed - We could end up with the wrong decisions because of misinformation due to politics rather than the facts paying a key part in national decision making.
yes we definitely do need to worry about energy.
Even if we ignore the significant factor of climate changed caused by our burning of fossil fuels, we still need to worry.
We get oil and gas from the North sea, but that supply is running low and ina few years there will not be enough to supply our energy needs.
Its all very well importing energy now, but what if France's cpopulationgrows and they reach their limit and cannot export energy anymore.
Do you seriously want to rely on Russia for energy supplies? They have been known to simply shut off the gas and oil supplies to other countries when they're p*ssed off
B&Q microgenarator.?
i just saw on the news that(in UK) B&Q are saling these microgenator things you hook up to your house and it and create green energy from the wind or something and supply you with 33% of the enrgy to power your house. they said they will start to sell them next week. just want to know who would really buy one . would you want a big fan sticking out your house or like me, wouldn't mind.
Microgenerators could never deliver 33% of an average households electricity requirements and it would many years to recuperate the initial purchase and installation costs. It would be more economic and easier to re examine and resuce your existing energy footprint. Quite simple things like more insulation in the loft and energy saving light bulbs can make a difference. Alos think hard about buying new white goods. I would not have a dish washer at home and would think hard before ever using an electric fire.
TIP
Before switching a light on at home, I look for something to switch off. I have reduced the bills by approx £25.
To conclude microgenerators will only be economic if the government offers big tax incentives, the prive of the units drop and cost of energy increases by significant amounts in the future.
