Should we empty the pool or clean the green water?
We have an above ground pool. To make the story short we did not close the pool for the winter and the pump froze with the nasty snow storms we had. Now the water is completely green, mosquitoes, worms, etc.... Absolutely disgusting. I feel it should be completely drained but my husband thinks we can get it clean….. We have called different pool companies to come and fix it and they are either out of their “servicing zones” or don't service the pools unless you bought it through them.
I can’t imagine it being safe to swim even if the water is clean and clear and all the levels are where they are supposed to be. Any advice?
Easy as pie to clean if you want to clean it. Simply buy some granular chlorine or 20L liquid carboy of chlorine. Add either 8 cups of granular or 1/2 the jug of liquid. Top off your water level and get the water circulating so you can filter out the junk and within a few minutes everything in there visible will be dead or dying and within 96hrs any harmful bacteria of even the most deadly persuasion will be toast. Within a week your water will be much cleaner and safer then most public pools. Dont forget to monitor your ph levels as they will raise from the influx of chlorine in the pool try and keep them around 7.2 to be the most effective with this overchlorination.
This however is the least of your worries by not winterizing your pool you may have caused untold amount of damage to fittings and piping in your system. From your pump to your heater to the simply lines in which water runs. Winterizing a pool takes no more then an hour of your time and could have saved you a butt load of money which you now have to shell out for a new pump. I've seen lines virtually shatter from this act of silliness and heaters rendered useless. So take the time next time.
Invest in a shop va and some non toxic antifreeze next time (cost 150 for the vac maybe 20 bucks for the non toxic antifreeze) Remove all plugs disconnect unions and blow the whole system then dump some antifreeze into be safe
