How could I make my study habbits more green?
I'm in college right now, and I use note cards to study. It's the only thing that works for me. I once studied for a test with out note-cards, and failed. My problem is, I would like to be as eco-friendly as possible, and I know going through several hundred note cards (already) and going to go through several hundred more for the rest of the time I'm in college is not to good for the environment. Aside from buying recycled note cards, what else can I do to 'green' my study habits? The environment is something that I really care about, and I try not to do things that will harm the earth, but I want to get the best grades possible in school. Any ideas?
Being green is suppose to be about being environmentally friendly. With a college education and the assumed higher income upon post graduation employment, you will be more capable of making environmentally friendly choices. Being environmentally friendly is suppose to be about making pro-active decisions and choices about your activities with respect to resource use; it is not about attempting zero resource use. Obviously, note cards are important to your activities on multiple levels. In the grand scope of things, your note card usage is not a big deal. But, that you do/are considering the use of note cards made out of recycled paper does say that you are willing to be eco-friendly within the scope of your activities.
You could borrow from the carbon credit and carbon off-set folks. While using your notecards, you might consider a different eco-friendly practice that you will continue or adopt in exchange. Or, you could think more like an old-time environmentally friendly with continual, little changes towards being more earth friendly in general.
Most of us Americans with a roof over our heads have the potential to reduce our environmental impact. Rather than concentrating on your note card usage, think about other ways you can reduce your impact. Putting on another layer and reducing the heat would probably out rank your note card usage. Walk more, use fewer disposables, only buy things when you actually need them, etc...
Speaking of your note cards....You are saving them aren't you? They may be of help to yourself before you are done or even after graduation. But, upon graduation, you might even find that someone else would just LOVE to receive them. Re-using them would be an eco-friendly thing.
