go green baby Frequently Asked Questions
my green baby iguana is about over a year old has swollen jaws.?
he is real lethargic... but if i stimulate him he will move but not as much as he used to... his jaw or neck seem to very swollen... can any one tell me what may be going on with my iguana?
Any mouth infection that is characterized by swelling and inflammation of the gums, with or without pus and drainage, can be classified as mouth rot.
Your green iguana more than likely has what is called mouth rot. This can become a serious condition if it is neglected.
The reasons for getting mouth rot can be stress, which is mostly caused by temperature and environment. Other reasons for mouth rot are bacteria, improper diet, inefficient/excessive humidity, and plenty of other reasons. Mouth rot is usually caused by a few causes, rather than one. If you can identify which one (or more) of these problems is causing the mouth rot, fix it immediately.
As far as curing this illness, there are no found home remedies for it. You will need to take your ig to a veterinary reptile specialist. They will be able to help you ease his pain and give you medication to cure the mouth rot.
If you do not take your iguana to a vet, there can be serious consequences. He may still feel alert and hungry, but when he tries to eat, it will cause a great amount of pain and struggle, as you can imagine. This will cause him to not eat and possibly starve to death.
Good luck to you and your ig!
Help with new Baby Bearded Dragon?
Thursday I went out and bought a baby bearded dragon (whose no more than 5 in long). He seemed active and fine thursday night and yesterday, but today he hasn't moved much and looks kinda sluggish. I'm doing what the pet store advised, but after doing some research on my own the advice they gave me didn't quite match up. For example, they told me dry food would be just fine, but when I looked it up, nowhere did it advise dry food. So later I'm going out to buy crickets and greens for him. So now I am questioning if I'm doing anything right because I've been following their advice...
Should the light be on 24/7 or can I shut it off at night?
What is the right balance of crickets vs greens?
Should I mist the cage, or is the shallow water dish fine on its own?
if there's anything else i should do to provide him the best care, please let me know, thanks =]
Ok gotta love pet stores NOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
no the light can not stay on 24/7 this will not allow him to rest properly and c auses stress.
you can get hybiscus from a yard as long as it wasnt sprayed or have fertilizers, they lov ethe leaves, collard greens seeds are cheap and you can grow your own or go to store
you can get a auto matic dripper from a store or nmake your own, gallon jug fill with water, small hole like pin size, it will drip on its own causing misting. make sure the lid is tight.
id leave greens etc available for his own selection.
stay away from bark for substrate so you do not have to deal with splinters
also never leave live food in cage as it can bite the beardie
best to you
