When should be the first oil change in a air cooled standby generator?
I understand that they cycle on and off for 20 minutes once a week.
!st. Follow manufactures advice. The type of cycle you stated is called severe service.
2.Use good oil and change at least 2x per year. Check into synthetic or add a tiny bit of slick 50 to the engine or buy there small engine slick. It will help the wear situation for the 20 min cycle.
3.Also, use stabil for the gas to prevent rust and gumming.
4.Check oil before starting or at least once a week before it starts.
5. Make sure it is vented to the outside. People die of carbon monoxide poisoning all the time.
How do I decide what kind of standby generator to buy?
I just bought a house that has a lot of trees around and is pretty secluded. I have already had two power outages lasting 2 or more hours. I think I have to buy a generator, but have no idea of where to start.......
It would not be worth the cost for 2 hour outages. The size and cost of what you would buy will be dependant upon what you desire to operate. To power the whole house automatically could cost well over $5k.
A portable generator 8500 Watts peak power will run lights and small items and refrigerators and feeezers. But is under $1k.
