Do you think there is a market for electric cars?
A few of my friends have got together and almost have talked me into this idea of taking old classics and converting them to electric. I'm in Florida and there has been a small market for ev's but I don't think it has been big enough to open a shop to do it. Anyone that is into Classics please tell me how you feel about it? Also any ideas on what models people might be interested in.
I think there would be a larger market if there were also more frequent "recharge" stations, plus a way to get a full charge to the battery in minutes instead of hours. The problem with electric vehicles is that their range is so short, and recharging them is a pain and takes 6 hours of uninterrupted plug-in time. And god forbid you run out of charge in the middle of somewhere...you would have no choice but to call a tow, instead of having someone else bring you gasoline. Plus if you get into an accident, repairing them is a lot more expensive.
So really, all that is why the market is so small...they are only good for people who only drive occasionally and for short distances.
Toyota Prius II 2010 Hybrid?
I've heard the toyota prius is a good car that saves fuel. so im interested in it but i have few problems with it
* What is the maximum speed of it In the EV mode and Wats the maximum speed when using combined ?
* Can it be charged using normal power supply If it cant how can it be charged (Using Fuel - how many liters does it take to charge fully ?
* Do i have to replace the Hybrid battery every year ?
* IS IT WORTH TO BUY IT ? (ill only use it for abut 4 or 5 years and buy a new one )
* how much is a Brand new Prius II and a Used Prius II (2009 or 2010)

The two motor/generators (MG) operate at every speed. The Prius is limited to about 105 MPH maximum. The engine comes on when necessary and always above 41 MPH to protect the smaller MG from over-revving. This kind of question indicates that you don't really understand how the Prius works. The Prius gets its good MPG because the engine is sized for steady state driving rather than for acceleration. This allows the engine to operate in the most efficient power band during almost all the times when the engine is on. Typically it operates between 34% and 38% efficiency compared with 20% for an old fashioned car. The MGs are there to provide additional power for acceleration and to allow EV running when the power demand is very low. Most of the time you actually want to use the gas engine for acceleration to get the best MPG because there is an energy conversion loss every time you change energy from one form to another. You never charge the battery, it's all automatically done. You never ever have to think about it. The MGs and engine work together. In addition, the battery never gets fully charged or fully discharged. This control over the battery makes is last a very long time.

No. The traction battery is designed to last the life of the car. There have been very few replaced and just about every week now there is someone posting that they have gone over 200,000 miles. The mean time between failures for the traction battery isn't known because there just aren't enough Prius out there with 300,000 to 400,000 miles on them.

Traditionally the Prius has had a better than average resale value--even when several years old. My 2004 has 115,000 miles on it. It has cost 12 cents per mile for dealer maintenance, tires, and fuel combined. It's a mid-sized car so it's going to be more expensive than a compact or sub-compact but maintenance costs are similar to other mid-sized cars or even lower.
I've found the Prius to be economical, low maintenance, roomy, and fun to drive. It would be very hard to get me back into an old fashioned car.
