Tesla motors Electric car goes 220 miles on a single charge. That sucks!?
the new Tesla car found here http://www.teslamotors.com/design/gallery-body.php
can go 220 miles on a single charge. dont get me wrong that is a giant leap for electric cars, but really what if you wanted to make a 400 mile trip. you would have to stop somewhere for 3.5 hours and charge up your car at the neares electrical outlet. granted it costs you about 2 cents per mile so the trip would cost you about 8 bucks. and not really because you aould be charging up someone elses light bill along the trip. but the usual 5 minute stop at a gas station now turns into 3.5 hours. i dont know how many slushies i would consume in that amount of time but i can tell you it wouldnt be pretty.
so what do you think. is this car going to be a luxury back and forth to work car? LOL its faster then a lamborghini. so your going to get to work crazy fast and in style but then you have to go home and charge up your car.
You're not looking at the big picture. Where is most of the gas burned in this country? Where does the average american spend 300 hours of his/her life every year? The answer to both questions is, commuting back and forth to work. Gas powered cars are very bad at this task. When they are stopped they are still burning fuel. Crawling along in traffic below a cretin speed wastes fuel.
I say save the gas burning car for the weekend fun. Use the most energy efficient and least polluting car doing the task the consumes the most resources. If you make that 400 mile trip once a week then the electric car is not for you. If you make that 400 mile trip once a month, or even better once a year, go rent a gas burner.
As for me I could live with a mere 60 MPC electric car for the every day driving. The one 82 mile trip I need to make once a month can be done in the company gas burner. As for driving the 325 miles to my dad's house for Christmas I'd go down to Rent A Wreck, rent a prius with the dollars I didn't spend on gas the rest of the year and still have a fatter wallet.
You don't need a 300 MPC electric car. When you get home after a hard days work, you plug in the car, eat dinner go to bed. In the morning you get up, get dressed, unplug the car and leave every day with a full load of "fuel". Two minor additions to the usual routine and you've made the world a little better. A gas car doesn't self fill at night an since you don't want to visit the gas station on a daily basis 300 miles is a light range requirement.
To quote Ed Begley Jr. from the film "Who Killed the Electric Car", "What the detractors and critics of electric vehicles have been saying for years, is true. The electric vehicle is not for everybody, given the limited range it can only meet the needs of 90% of the population." Your 400 mile trip falls into the remaining 10%.
what brand and model electric motor can I use to power a small car?
have a light body and frame would like a 50hp moter that would on several car batterys,or where can i buy something that would work
I'm sorry for not answering your question but I had to enlighten you that you will need 37,000 watts to power a 50 hp motor and using 12 v batterys you will need over 3000 amps to power your motor, of course you may have to beef up that light frame cause your motor is going to weigh 500 lbs alone without the batterys you will need to power it, about 4 brand new fully charged12 v batterys will power your motor about 20 mins to a half hour then you will have to charge them overnight so you can get home.
