Do the 'big 3' US auto manufacturers only have themselves to blame for their downfall?
For largely making fuel inefficient cars with minimal investment in dynamic technology or build quality.
Japanese and European cars are 10 years ahead in term of fuel efficiency and use of new technology-Honda have just made a hydrogen/electric car that is actually practical.
What do you think?
I think it's really the credit market more than anything else. They tighten the requirements for an auto loan hence less people can buy cars. It's a domino effect at this point.
I'm not sure if you are just biased at this point and disregarding the US auto companies but what about the Chevy Volt, Dodge EV which are going to beat any "foreign" car makers to the market?
As for reliability, did you know that US manufactures had 2 of the top 3 positions according to JD Powers?
1. Lexus
2. Mercury
3. Cadillac
Anyhow, just something to think about. I'm not dumping on the "foreign" car's but I'm not totally disregarding what the big 3 are doing or have achieved.
Who here would buy a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle if it were availble from a major car manufacturer today?
They are supposed to available from Toyota soon.
Hybride cars are cool, they recharge while you drive em now.. very little plugging in.. some come with 8 yr warranties on the battery and when it comes time to seel your hybrid it will be in big demand.. everyone will want one, because Gas will just keep rising.. so your car will hold a value much longer and you will get more for it when time to upgrade..
