Do you people know that this biodiesel car has to be converted first to run on vegetable oil?
None of you seems to have looked up greasecar.com to say a logical, scientific reason why this wouldn't work. The kit they offer converts a diesel engine into a biodiesel, readily. Also, the diesel cars sold there are used, & very cheap. You don't have to buy new. Even if everyone buys into the idea, the WASTE vegetable oil still costs these cos. money to haul it away. So maybe all you skeptics should keep paying $3, $4 per gallon of gas & not even try it & just let it go at that. Anyone else with a logical answer to my question that doesn't stuff the already stuffed pockets of the big 5 oil cos. that own all the gasoline in the U. S.?
Any diesel car can run on biodiesel, and any diesel car with minor modifications can run on veggie oil. For new diesel vehicles, biodiesel is an approved fuel.
I have a 1983 mercedes 300sd that is modified to run on vegetable oil. It works well and the exhaust smells like the chinese food that was cooked in the oil. Also, free fuel. Not too shabby.
The way it works is that the first diesel engine ran on peanut oil. So the engine is designed for this kind of crud. But over the years cars have been honed to run on diesel fuel which is much thinner than wvo (waste vegetable oil). The key is to heat the fuel until it is the same thickness as diesel fuel. We employ a second tank, and use the engine coolant to heat the fuel. Start the car on diesel, and run it until it's hot. Switch over to vegetable oil. And then a few minutes before you turn the car off, switch back.
Also, any gasoline car can run on ethanol, which is another biofuel. Ethanol produced from corn isn't viable for mass use, but in Brazil they produce it from sugar cane and it is very cheap. I think that if we were to put ethanol on the market and allow profit motive to work it's magic, surely someone would build a better mousetrap so to speak.
