Can I use a cell phone charger which is plugged into a DC/AC power inverter plugged into my car? What are the risks? What modifications are necessary?
Sure you can. Phone chargers draw very little power. There's no danger of overloading. Even a little 100W inverter should be fine.

building a ups that can give me backup for like 5 hours...?
i am building a ups, not buying one,,, the reason why i am doing that is because i want one with like 5 hours backup, here is what i have so far,,, a truck battery (145k... its really big) a dc to ac inverter (1000watts) and a 15amp charger (charger is completly manual, no cut off no nothing, just a coil that converts ac into dc) i have the changer connected to the battery and the battery+ charger connected to the inverter. everything is working great,,, when the power goes off the battery kicks in and i dont loss any data, it also works for like 4 hours on my computer setup,,, now comes the problem,,, i am worried that because of overchangering i am going to cook my battery, what should i do????
