What to do if you've gotten Diesel fuel accidentally mixed in with regular unleaded gas?
A local gas station where I live accidentally sold gas that had been mixed with diesel fuel. Several local residents reported the problem and there was even a write up in the local paper about it. The company owning the gas station offered full reimbursement for any repair costs related to the problem. I was late about learning about the problem and thought that the jerking and hesitation my car was experiencing was due to a bad PCV or EGR valve. I tried using some B-12 Chemtool to clean out the fuel system and bought premium gas instead of regular. It seemed to help somewhat, but every now and then (I've filled up twice since the problem started) I still get some hesitation or jerking. The local repair shops are recommending a full flush of the gas tank and fuel lines, as well as a new fuel filter and spark plugs. Is all that really necessary or will the remaining residual diesel fuel be burned away with time? Also, can the diesel fuel damage my car?
Definately get the full flush done - Diesel fuel can kill a standard petrol car, especially the Cat.
And no, you can't guarantee that all the diesel will get burned away
