What is the difference between a red or a blue led ir illuminator?
I was browsing through ir illuminators for a surveillance system where I work. We use red led IR illuminators, but I've found yellow and blue led ir illuminators while browsing for more. I was wondering what the difference was and if I were to use a blue or yellow one, would it dramatically affect my video feed. . . for better or for worse? Thank you.
Well since IR lives in the frequency of 720 nm to 850 nm no light in other ranges will effect an IR sensitive sensor.
Yellow light lives in the 570 nm range
Blue lives in the 475 nm range
So you can see, unless those "coloured" LED's also put out the long IR waves too, the IR sensor will be blind to the Yellow and Blue LEDs

Blue lights are only legal for official or emergency vehicles only no matter where you are. Signal lights facing the front or sides have to show up as amber. Rear facing signals can be either amber or red.
