biofuels business Frequently Asked Questions
Recently there have been food shortages in a number of countries. What are the causes and the solutions?
Diversion of resources to production of biofuels has frequently been cited, as has increased consumption of meat in China and the drought in southern Australia with replacement of rice growing by wine grapes as a crop, see http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/17/business/worldbusiness/17warm.html Are there additional causes, and what are effective solutions which stand some chance of being adopted by international organizations or individual countries? Include any ideas you may have about effective advocacy of your proposed solutions.
Bad management, definitely, but what is good management? And how can it be achieved?

im 12 y/o and a concerned citizen from paco,manila
in this event, we are facing 2 major problems:
first is the lack of trust in everyone and corruption in our government, and the second is the rice shortage(nagkakadamutan na ang bawat probinsya na bigyan ang metro manila ng bigas)
the cause of this problem is the government, the cabinet members has no idea of this problem. because our country's money has been corrupted. this money must used to buy fields to plant rice grains but the money we used to buy that goes to government's pocket and they'll use it to travel in other parts of the world, go to hotels that are expensive in other countries. and the most expensive of this is the overpricing of projects in our country. in my calculations this is an example of overpicing-
Project: water dam
original price: lets say 1 billion philippine pesos
posted price in the agreement: 1.5 billion pesos
overpriced by: 500 million pesos
overpriced money will go to the politician's pocket!
see my example it's clear
in our rice problem, ("hindi ko po sinisisi ang gobyerno")
my solution: plant rice grains in the fields and not pineapples, houses, lots, buildings, etc
thanks!
Can the use of biofuels in the West increase the danger of terrorism?
A UN official has recently said that the use of biofuels in the West is a crime against humanity. Because people are converting food crops such as corn into ethanol and putting it into their gas tanks. While millions upon millions of people in poor countries can no longer afford to buy enough food to feed themselves. Which is leading to widespread malnutrition and famine.
There is no one to blame when harvests are poor due to bad weather. But when people delibertately take food away from hungry mouths and waste it by driving around in unnecessarily huge cars and trucks. Then there is someone to blame.
And this makes me wonder if the recent food riots in poor countries will have longer implications in terms of increased resentment and terrorism against the West?
Here is some articles about it:

Again, another unintended side effect of Liberalism. Why are food prices increasing and poor people going hungry? Liberalism!
Liberalism in the form of environmentalism has stopped almost all drilling for oil in America and off shore. The result? Higher oil prices. The result? Higher transportation prices and farming prices. The result? Higher food prices.
The Liberal fix. Biofuels. The result? Farmland switched from food production to biofuel production. The result? Less food. The result? Higher prices and hunger.
Liberals are quick to come up with "fixes" yet they have an uncanny ability to remain totally blind to the actual effect those fixes have. Want people to have food? Want them to become self-sufficient? Want them to stop fighing and rioting?
Drill for oil. The time will come when oil supplies will actually begin to run out. That is a long time from now. Just look at the how technology imporves. The free market, if allowed to operate freely, will correct all of this. We have get to rid ourselves of the notion that the environment must never change. Nature is all about change. We have to get rid of the idea that every species must be protected. Billions of species have come and gone on this planet. Some adapt and imporove others do not and perish. That is Nature's way. Man is part of that system.
