As a geography major, I've done extensive research on alternative energy. I have a new idea called "rain power." I think we should instill rooftop generators incorporated into rainwater collection. Rain falls diagonally rather than straight. Therefore, the terminal velocity from the raindrops could spin these turbines and generate electricity. Monsoon Season in Asia would be fantastic for producing it. The same is true regarding hurricane season in the Gulf Coast and rainy season in the Pacific Northwest. What do you think? Do we have the brain power to harness rain power?

Even in a tropical storm the kinetic energy of rain drops hitting the surface is very small. A turbine will not turn with that. The correct option is to collect all rain water efficiently in suitable catchment areas and run generators.
A hut with a palm leaf tatch withstands the heaviest rain in the tropics. How can a turbine move with such little force?
This is because each rain drop has a large area to volume ratio. This limits the terminal velocity of the drop to a small finite value independent of how far the drop fell from the cloud.
This velocity is much less than about 8 m/s. Not enough to turn a turbine.

Anyone find any problems with Mccaine's proposals?
Just wondering if anyone out there is worried about Mccaine winning the election? It seems like his policies will make a bad situation even worse than it already is. His take on Iran could send us into another war that we can't afford. His economic policy is laughable, "stating that ebay is a fine economic model to follow and that it could help the economy if we all started buying and selling on the site". He's also made no interest known that he wants to initiate R&D into alternative forms of sustainable energy. I don't see how he would do anything to improve upon anything going on in our world right now. Am I wrong? can anyone let me know what he intends to do and what his goals are. "To me' Obama seems like the more capable candidate. Mccaine seems like he'd be a friendly neighbor, some one to share a beer with, but no one I'd want making any "big" decisions...
