It's possible that many farms that currently produce oranges for consumption would focus their resources on oranges produced for energy, since they may be more lucrative, in which case the cost of oranges in the store would go up, since the supply of oranges for consumption would go down. If the orange market boomed, that could mean that rural communities in Florida, California and Texas would expand.
If new technology made orange farming more efficient, the price of oranges would probably go down for consumers, though selling oranges would become more lucrative for orange producers.

Haha! Talk about idealism! Do you really believe that shareholders have any say or even any KNOWLEDGE of the high-level decisions the oil co's make? They may as a group 'own' the company but they sure as hell don't run it! And as long as the dividends keep flowing, they don't ask many questions, either.
most of your big businesses are owned by those in high places and government offices don't think for a single moment your life means anything to them. There is so much happening behind the doors that you may be shocked to find out. Murder is nothing or making you disappear (same thing). You come up with an alternative oil or fuel and your right, your life will be worthless and chances are we will read how you sold it to the oil company and are retired living the life of a king. they wont say the life of king tut. then they will take your idea seal it at area51 and say it didn't work and go right back to normal. but hey good luck.
