An athlete can typically develop ~1kW of sustained (up to 30 minutes) mechanical power through a bicycle mechanism.
Compare this with the power developed by a humble Nissan Micra 1.0 litre, which is 40 kW.
I think those figures speak for themselves, but even if you considered just the power-to-weight ratio (which is are more useful measure at low speeds), the Nissan Micra + passengers weighs about 1000kg, which gives 40 Watts per kilogramme. An athlete might weigh 80kg, which equates to just 12.5 Watts per kilogramme. I haven't even considered the weight of the vehicle, or the athlete's friends. You'd have to assume they too were all athletes and all pedalling hard, and that the vehicle were weightless to achieve anything close to that figure
Also, not everyone is an athlete (some drivers are elderly, or have children). And, you'd stink from the sweat after driving somewhere.
So my answer is: No, pedal power is not a feasible alternative to conventional power plant in a car, but... I would buy (and have bought) a bicycle to travel short distances (up to 10 miles/day), but it does get tiring if you do it every day.
